Soundwalk & field recording atelier

This workshop was initiated by Hélo Moondi and supported by the Turbulence collective, which is located on the edge of the runways of Tegel Airport in Berlin.

This collective has dedicated a special safe space and an opportunity for women, trans and non-binary people to come together to learn some hands-on skills around the topic of recording and music composition.​​​

Introduction and history from Murray Schafer to the use of field recording inside electronic music nowadays.

>What is the deep listening? Introduction to the artist Pauline Oliveros. Acoustic ecology. 

>Recording tools and microphones.

-  Soundwalk, 45 minutes.

Short 15 minutes intervention of Emma Seach, drawing teacher around the first stative recording. Short drawing of the soundscape. Practice of the deep listening. Introduction to recording techniques. 

Walk & recording with different devices. Zoom recorder, professional SOUNDDEVICE recorder, various microphones and contact mics.

- Creation and introduction to music production tools, 45 minutes.

> Why being creative inside recording and sampling?

> How to reduce noise inside a recording with an equalizer.

> Modulate a sample through Audacity or Ableton live and through other tools (modular system, effect pedals...)

-> Drawings of the students' soundscape resulting from a 12-minutes intervention by drawing teacher Emma Seach. It's an interesting exercise to start picking out details in the soundscape.
